Project 1: Project Proposal
Instructions: Check Assignments for more instructions and the due date.
It's time to think about what kind of project you would like to work on throughout the semester. Previously students have built websites for local businesses, student organizations, art galleries, etc. You may ask around to see whether others need a website. Otherwise, you can propose something that you would like to do.
Please don't use templates and make sure you will demonstrate that you are familiar with:
- HTML
- CSS
- PHP
- JavaScript
(you can use JavaScript libraries)
If you don't know what you plan to do for the final project, please let me know and we can talk, but to get a better idea of feasibility, please watch this 5 min video of this strangely uncanny yet familiar-looking professor discuss (opens in a new tab) what you should be thinking about in terms of a proposal.
Once you decide, please write a project proposal that should include:
- Project Title
- Team Members (more on this in a future class)
- Objectives (10 points)
- List what you plan to accomplish through this project
- You should have at least 4 objectives.
- Include objectives not only for your users (or customer) but for yourself.
- Short Project Description (10 pts)
-
In 3-4 sentences provide a summary of the project idea.
-
Provide the summary from the viewpoint of someone who knows nothing about the project
-
- Services/Functionalities (10 pts)
- List at least 4 services/functionalities that your website will provide/support
- Targeted users (5 pts)
- Provide either 4 specific sentences for who the application is designed for or 2 sentences each for who it's designed for and what it's not.
- Tentative Project Timeline (15 pts)
- Provide a plan that has bullet points for the remaining weeks until the end of the semester, outlining what you plan to do each week (and considering when the due dates for this project will be)
- Make sure that what you are doing matches with the timeline for this course's assignments and deadlines
Submit your proposal on Canvas.
